Hydrangea Cake

I have to admit, I'm kinda impressed with myself... I really like how this cake turned out and would like to make it again someday. I also tried a new white cake recipe and it was very yummy. I hope it made it safely all the way to TN!

This cake may have been the hardest I've done... emotionally. It's a good thing that I had a child to tend to every so often while doing this cake or I probably would have shed a few tears... actually I probably could now too. I'm really going to miss having Heather do cakes with me. I enjoyed spending the time with her as much as, actually more than, doing the cakes.

So I need to post the last three cakes that we did... well two that we did together and one that I did by myself.

Last baby shower cake at Heather's old school.

Katie and Clint's wedding rehearsal cake. We had a ton of fun designing and decorating this. This was also our last cake together as Classy Confections... but hopefully not our last cake together ever. I will have a one year old to do a cake for next year and maybe Heather can come help me since it will be a very important cake!

Our friend Erin's son, Luke, had his first birthday this June and it had a monkey theme. This was his personal cake.

I will continue doing cakes so please, please ask me to do some for yall!!

Over The Hill

This past week we had a cake for a man turning 40. He is a huge Gamecock fan, but the rest of his family is not... so we thought it would be funny to have Cocky about to go "over the hill" at Death Valley. Heather did a fantastic job on Cocky!!

Cookie Monster Cake

This past weekend, I made a Cookie Monster cake for her nephew's 2nd birthday. I tried out a new recipe for a chocolate chip cookie dough cake to go with the theme and it was really tasty! Grayson seemed to enjoy this cake much more than last years!

It's been a while since we've posted, but we have two new cakes to show you.

First, we had a request for a birthday cake for a little girl who wanted surfboard and a monkey both incorporated onto her cake! So what's better than a surfing monkey?!

Second, a friend from my church is having a baby (due exactly 3 weeks before I am) and we hosted her first baby shower for her this past Sunday. The bedding for the nursery is sooo cute, but very intricate. Since I was doing this cake all by my lonesome, due to Heather's engagement lunch with their families, I had to simplify it just a bit! Yes, if you didn't know Heather is engaged and I'm super excited for her... though her 1 1/2 hr commute to do cakes isnt' going to be much fun for her!! haha, jk! Safari Baby Shower

Heather's coworker is having a baby and of course we did the cake for the school shower! Her bedding is so cute with a safari theme. We found a picture of the rug that belongs to the set and imitated it on the cake, changing a thing here and there! Heather gets credit for everything but the border and smoothing?! haha, I sat and stared much of the time, but I find it so cool to see her create animals out of icing!

Sweet 16

Our first creations for a sweet 16 party finally happened! We made a large cupcake and 4 dozen cookies with the birthday girl's initials on them! The colors were hot pink, turquoise, and lime green... which looked so cute together! We went with royal icing on these cookies b/c we like the look and it was def. some trial and error for us, but they turned out rather cute, or so I think!

Spiderman Cupcakes

Last week we got to make some Spiderman cupcakes which was a first for us! Heather gets all credit for the faces and buildings and then we both worked on the other cupcakes.

Princess Cake

A couple weeks ago we made a Pincess cake for a little girl turning 2 who is very much into all of the Disney princesses. We all know I don't do the real artsy stuff and Heather didn't think she could do people with icing so we went with the Disney castle but in the colors of the party - green and pink. I would wait until we were almost done to look in my bag of goodies a fellow teacher gave me last year to find I had a set of Disney princess sprinkles! We were able to use the crowns on the sides and then pearl balls on the tops of the castle peaks. There was a blue shoe and we were going to put just one outside the castle door, but it didn't really look like a shoe, so we didn't go that route.

A few weeks ago we got to create 5 dozen cupcakes for a baby shower based on the crib bedding. The bedding is mostly blue and browns with turtles on it. We imitated a few of the turtles and changed up some colors to get what you see below!!

Ducklings, Monkies, and Volleyball - Oh, My!

Two weeks ago, we did a cake for a my friend, Ellen's, sister who is expecting her third child. Their last name is Hicks and they don't know what they are having this time. Heather had the brilliant idea of having the baby duckling hatching from an egg!

This past week we did some volleyball cupcakes for our friend Rachel who coaches and her team was wrapping up their season this year. The pics are bit blurry so we apologize for that. We did each girls' jersey with thier number and then a few extras.

This past weekend, we did another 1st birthday party for Miss Riley! We love first birthday cakes, they are always so fun to decorate! The theme of this party was monkies with light pink, hot pink, and a bright green color scheme. Once again, we have to brag on William for doing all of the writing... he even branched out to a new curly font for Riley's name!!

Groom's Cake #1!!!

We can finally post our first ever groom's cake! This was by far the most important cake we've done to date and was viewed by some 100+ people! We even did a practice cake a few months ago to make sure that we knew exactly how we wanted things to go and we are very glad that we did so.

Lisa and Taylor go to church with me and were married on Oct. 2nd at Larkin's in downtown Greenville. So yes, not only was it our first groom's cake, but it was at Larkin's and if you are from around these parts you know it's a nice place!! Taylor is an avid fish and Lisa wanted to surprise him with a large-mouthed bass cake.

Heather and I worked really well together on this cake, from combining ideas about how to make the wood look real to the colors on the fish. We of course have to give credit to William who did all of the writing on this cake. He hasn't been recruited in a good while, but this was so small and both of us were to the point of having carpal tunnel that we handed it over to him. :) He did very well!!

Below is the orginal practice cake... we def. made some improvements on the second one!

We also did desserts for the rehearsal dinner the previous night. We made 2 of "Nana Pat's Beach Cake" which is a favorite of Taylor's family and is pictured below. We also made "chocolate banana pudding" which is a favorite of Lisa's family. It was neat to make family recipes for them, but I didn't get a picture of the pudding.

Another 1st Birthday and a 60th Birthday

Here are three more cakes from last weekend. We did another 1st birthday for a girl at my church and they wanted Minnie Mouse. Heather did a fantastic job with Minnie... her talent never ceases to amaze me!!! Glad she is my cake partner!!

The next cake we did was for a 60th birthday party. We took the invitation that they sent out and copied the tree on it... it's kind of an "artsy" tree. Then Heather tried to copy the font and did a pretty good job of it!

A girl loves her puppy!

So one of our cakes from last weekend was for a little girl's birthday. She had recently received a puppy as an early gift and her mom thought that having the dog on the cake would be perfect. I felt like this cake would have been perfect for one of the Hollywood stars who always has their dog with them. It's girly and very cute!!

Logan Turns One!!

Last week, we made a cake for a friend of Bonnie's son, Logan, who turned one. We love doing 1st birthday cakes and getting pictures of them digging in! Check out the pics below of Logan's cake and him enjoying it!

Well, things have been a bit slower than usual during August and September, but they are really picking up. We've done just a few cakes over the past month, some of which we cannot yet post because they were practice for an upcoming event. The other week, Heather had to do a cake on her own because I was out of town. This was for a baby shower and it turned out so cute... love the colors together!

We are currently working on 4, yes 4, cakes for this week... actually 5 b/c one is a 1st bday giant cupcake and a larger cake to go along. Can't wait to post those later!! Then next week, we have a rehearsal dinner and groom's cake which we are also really excited about!! And it's fun just having girl time with Heather again after a little bit of a "dry spell"! Katie's Masters Cake!

My sister just graduated from Clemson with her masters in Agriculture Education. For the celebration cake, we made a pink velvet with cream cheese/pecan filling and buttercream on the outside. All of the items represent something about what Katie loves/does.

Cute Little Bear Cake

This is a cake we did for a baby shower last week. We got the idea from a picture of the nursery items. The little boy will be named Cruz, so we wrote it on the car... we thought it went well, liking the bear was 'Cruzin'". Heather did most all of the art work, while I did the base and borders. This is one of the cutest cakes, in my personal opinion.

We decided to show you part of the process. First, you have the cake with the white icing on it after it has been smoothed. If you look to the left, you'll see the pic that Heather drew and then copied.

Then you have the car before it's smoothed out:

This last week, we did another 1st Birthday cake with a penguin theme! Hamilton's favorite stuffed animal is a penguin named Mr. Waddles. We did a little penguin standing on some ice next to a "1". Since the cake was smaller, we put Hamilton's name on the front of it. We thought it was a cute little cake!

Owl Baby Shower Cupcakes

Last week, we got to do some cupcakes for a baby shower that were based on the nursery. The theme of the nursery was an owl/outdoorsey theme. These were a ton of fun and turned out really cute!

Happy Father's Day and William's Birthday (2 different things!)

Last week I was on a mission trip in GA (which you can read more about in my personal blog!) and Heather had to do a Father's Day cake on her own. I think it is just the cutest thing and I hate I can't take any credit!! haha... great job Heather!!!

Father's Day happened to be the same day at William's, my husband, birthday. Since we got in Sat. and had stuff going on, I didn't get to make him a cake until today. My inspiration came from one of his measuring tapes, but I put the thumb piece on the wrong side... oh well!

We had another order for a graduation cake... which are pretty fun because they are all so different! Heather had to do this one on her own though, my last bible study was on the night that Heather had free. She did a fantastic job though!!! I would be nothing without her!! :)

The School Year is Indeed Over

Boy, have we been busy!!! We have had quite a few cakes in the last two weeks!

This first cake was a graduation/birthday cake for one of Bonnie's coworker's daughter. We incorporated anything that she was involved with such as FCA, Debate Team, French Club; her high school and college she will be attended; etc... We did it like a patchwork quilt and had a lot of fun with it. Sorry the pictures aren't the clearest for some reason.

These cupcakes were for another one of Bonnie's coworkers class... they are in the French immersion if you are wondering why you can't read it... it says "Good Luck" and there are some Eiffel Towers on a few. The cupcakes laid out like this make the French flag as well.

This next cake looked so good and we are going to have to make one just for us to eat! We had two cakes to make for a lady that goes to church with Heather. They were for her son's graduation party. One was this strawberry cake below and the other was a red velvet that we forgot to take a picture of.

The cake below is a first for us - a German Chocolate Cake. Mr. Jeff from Bonnie's school had thrown out a hint or two (or 50) that he loved these cakes and wanted one. The last day of school (and Bonnie's last day as a teacher there) she took him this cake as a surprise. It did look pretty tasty and he said it was!

The School Year is Ending

This week we did a cake for the retirement luncheon at Bonnie's school for the two teachers who are retiring. The theme was focused around oriental vases and patterns and so that was the theme of the cake as well.

We got our inspiration from this vase.

Last week we did cookies for the 5th grade graduates in the Spanish class at Bonnie's school. They were bright and colorful!

Rocket Ship Baby Cake

So we have decided that cupcakes are our favorite things to decorate! It can be a lot of fun making them each unique and you seem to be able to do more with them. Last weekend, we did baby shower cupcakes for Natalie (who is by far our #1 customer!!!). They turned out so cute and were so fun - esp. the baby carriage ones.

Then this week, we made some flower cupcakes for a teacher friend at Bonnie's school. This was a first making these flowers and they were fun to make. We hope to do more like these in the future!

Katie S is Getting Married!

A girl that both Bonnie and Heather went to Clemson with, Katie, is getting married next month. She teaches at the same school with Bonnie. We took the invitation scrap paper that was used and matched the pattern the best that we could. We also tried a new chocolate recipe that was fantastic!! Thanks to Donna!!! We can't wait to make (and eat) it again!

Baby Quilt Cake

This week we did a shower for the four ladies at Bonnie's school who are expecting. We went with green and yellow for a generic look and thought that it turned out really cute. It was suppose to look like a quilt and we hope that was what people saw! We had a ton of fun with this was since we were able to do so many different patterns and designs. We hope that you like it just as much!!

So... we have 3 baby shower cakes this week and one (for 80 ppl) next!!! We did one last night, for a school shower today. It turned out quite cute!

This was a first for us - we hadn't made a tiered cake except for in our class. Also, please take note of Heather's apron! We got matching ones and my aunt put our names on them. There will be a picture of the both of us coming soon!!

Grayson is One!!

This past weekend, Bonnie and William celebrated their nephew's one year birthday. They got to go to Marietta and spend time with the Trammell side of the family.

We made the cake for the party, along with a over-sized cupcake for Grayson. We took a thank you card that Mollie would be sending out and copied the image. Heather did most of the beautiful animal artwork and it turned out so cute (if we say so ourselves!). The cakes made it to Georgia with no problem, except not allowing Bonnie to sleep b/c of her nerves! Please take a look at Grayon's cakes! There will be a few more pictures to come later, as Mollie and Chad's friends took some professional ones!

Did I mention that Grayson was not a fan... at first. He did start to eat the cake without the icing later!

Whitney's School Shower

Tuesday, we decorated a cake for Bonnie's coworker - Whitney. Whitney is getting married soon and they had a school shower for her. We wanted to do something new and decided to try a paisley print. It turned out quite well! We were pleased and it seemed to be a big hit!

1st Birthday

We recently made a large cupcake and regular cupcakes for Bonnie's friend, Liza's baby. Davis just celebrated his big 1 year and we were excited to help out. Liza actually made the cake topper, which were so cute! This was the first time to test out our large cupcake pan and we are looking forward to using it again and again!

Around the Clock and A Million Bucks

We have two new cakes to show you! This first one was for a "Around the Clock" themed bridal shower. The first two pics are about the same, but the first shows the true colors the best.

We have to brag on William for doing all of the writing!

The next cake was for Heather's school. They started a new program with their library and asked that we make a cake for them. This is by far the biggest (width wise) cake we have made to date. We are having to learn to become creative when transporting these cakes from place to place. Glad to say that it made it safely and many got to enjoy!

Heather teaches at Liberty Elementary and their mascot is Libby the Lab. Pay close attention to all the detail that she included in the cake.

Safari Cookies and Snowman Cake

We (mostly Heather) decorated these cookies for a first birthday party. They turned out really cute!

We hosted a "Classy Confections" Jewelry Swap for Christmas and here are the goodies. The snowman cake was our center piece and he was a lot of fun to do! We also came up with the idea of making mini Christmas cookies with "dip" that was icing - yummmmy!

3 New Confections!

Sorry it's been a while since our last post, so we have a few things to add.

First, we have a Power Rangers birthday cake that we did for the son of a teacher friend of Heather's.

Next, we have a cake for a baby shower. For this cake, we got to try out a new recipe for a Strawberry cake and if you ever want it, let us know b/c it's great!

Lastly, this past week, we made Christmas cookies for a friend of Bonnie's to take to her nursing friends at the hospital. We did eat a couple of the "messed up" ones ourselves... if you haven't tried our cookie recipe you are truely missing out - just ask Natalie!

Kirkley and Robert's Party

We helped to throw a party with our friend Meredith for our friends Kirkley and Robert last weekend. It was tons of fun and we were excited to make a cake for the event. It was a bit strange being at an event where everybody is eating a cake we made. Made us a little nervous, but it went well!! There last name will start with a "R" so that is why we put it on the cake. Meredith is a photographer and she tooks these awesome pics! Wedding Shower Cupcakes and Bunco Cookies

So we had a request for 50 cupcakes for a wedding shower this past week. This past Sunday, we got together and created all of the flowers you see on top. They were royal icing, so they set up like candy.

Bonnie also had a Bunco night with some friends this past Wednesday. She created these dice cookies for the event!

Home Improvement Shower

We got asked on facebook to do a cake for Bonnie's cousin's shower. They were having an home improvement shower and wanted a cake that centered on that theme as well as tied in Allison's colors of purple and green. This cake was for 60ish people, therefore being the largest cake we'd attempted! We made 4 9x13 cakes - 2 being almond pound cake and 2 chocolate. This allowed the cake to be two flavors. This was def. an experience for us, but we had a great time doing it.

Getting Started!

We are Classy Confections aka Bonnie and Heather! We have decided to start spreading the word about our cakes, cupcakes, and themed parties. We took a cake class a little over one year ago and enjoyed improving our cake decorating skills! Here are a few of what we have done (no particular order):

We would love to get into themed parties. For instance, we did a party for Bonnie's sister's graduation. Since she graduated in Ag Ed, we made all of the treats "ag" related.
